I am beginning work on a big new project, growing out of Plan Of The City, and I have two exciting shows coming up in November.
The new project is an opera about Robert Moses and Jane Jacobs. Judd Greenstein - the composer whom I worked with on Plan Of The City - will be writing the music, and the poet Tracy K Smith will be writing the libretto. I will be creating the visuals and directing. The opera will be fully staged with lots of projected animation. Read more information about the project.
New work at BAM Next Wave
Our first studies for the opera will be presented at the BAM Next Wave Festival this fall - a new piece of music by Judd, set to Walt Whitman's Mannahatta, will be performed accompanied by projections of a series of animated motifs that I am developing. These will be our first explorations of potential musical and visual themes for the opera.
These studies will be presented as part of a larger program of new music by several talented composers. Here are the details:
The show is called 21c Liederabend, op.3.
Saturday, Nov 23, 7:30pm

A taste of what I am working on for this show is included at the bottom of this email, as a still image.
